Galax JAM

Summer JAM

Galax Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) will be offering a 6-week summer program this year.

Summer JAM will be different from the school-year offering. Rather than group lessons, Summer JAM will consist of 6 weeks of individual one-on-one half-hour lessons on Tuesday afternoons, June 17-July 22, scheduled between the hours of 3 and 6 pm. Students can sign up for fiddle, banjo, mandolin, or guitar.

This is an opportunity to improve on an instrument a child already plays or to get a head start on a new instrument. Students who have already participated in a JAM program or who plan to start JAM in the fall are especially encouraged to enroll.

The cost is $30 for the 6 weeks of lessons, and is open to children age 8 to 14. Galax JAM can loan instruments to students who pay a security deposit. There are a limited number of spots available for each instrument.

To register, please stop by the school or give us a call at (276) 236-3500.

Chestnut Creek School of the Arts is proud to act as the fiscal agent and host of the Galax JAM program. Participating students from Galax Middle School come to CCSA on Monday and Thursday afternoons to study fiddle, banjo, guitar, or mandolin with some of our region’s best musicians.

Each semester ends with a performance at the Rex Theater.
