In this class you will be making a teardrop-shaped dulcimer with a walnut back and sides and you can choose from redwood or spruce for the top wood. The fretboards are walnut and will have a 6 1/2 fret on them, and we can add a 1 1/2  fret as well, if anyone wants that. The sound holes can either be Jeff's traditional heart shape, or you can help design a pattern for your instrument. If you want to do a custom shape, contact Jeff beforehand and to work out the details ahead of time. We will install high quality Grover tuners on them and you can set it up with three or four strings.

clamping the top of the dulcimerThere will be some work for you to do on your instruments some weeks between classes, such as sanding or applying finish, so be prepared to spend time outside of class doing this work - Jeff will give you the supplies you need to complete these assignments. The cost of the supplies is $100 and that can be paid to Jeff on the first day of class.

Hone your harmony singing skills and study the varied duet singing styles from the American South. Add old time country standards, sacred songs and traditional ballads to your repertoire while building rich harmonies with different singing partners.

Singers in this class will learn to create unique harmony lines, match phrasing with singing partners, and apply ornamentation used in Southern singing styles. Instructors will share techniques for accompanying duet singing with guitar and banjo and offer advice on unaccompanied singing.

Singers of all experience levels are welcome; previous experience singing harmony is not required. You do not need to bring your own singing partner although it's always fun to come to class with a friend!

There will be a concert with Kay and Sam at 7:00 that evening, and students in the class will get a $1.00 discount for their ticket to the concert ($10.00 original price/$9.00 for students in the class)
